PALMERSTON SPRING SHOW

This'famoais annual event is scheduled for November sth, 6th, t and 7tli next. It is always looked' forward to with a great deal of interest, notably amongsifc live stock breeders of all classes and sporting men. , At this show may be seen the pick'of our pure-bred stock, and of the high level attained in this direction by our' breeders, New Zealand may feel just- ' ly proud. A notable innovation has I been made this year in the draught | horse division. Hitherto, Clydesdales, Shires And other heavy horses have had the one divisiotn to themselves; this year a division has been made so that any breeder of a heavy horse may compete in a section apart from the lighter quality Clydesdales.. It remains to be seen how the experiment will but the fact of its be-' ing made is another indication of the committee's progressiveness. The schedule to hand is bristling with trophies and special prizes, prominent amongst which we notice the Conway Perpetual Challenge Cup and the McHardy Memorial Cup. Both these are valued at 50 guineas, and each carries with it a five-guinea gold medal. The first-mentioned is for most points in the horse, cattle, sheep and pig divisions, and the latter is for most points in ring competitions and light horse classes. The hemp competition instituted last year with one class again appears with two classes this year. It is gratifying to observe that progress is still maintained in every division of the schedule, and the committee is'to I>e congratulated on its latest effort in the inter- 1 est of the general public of our coun- j

try. Schedules and all information may be obtained on application to Mr W. T. Penny, secretary, Palmerston North.
