"THE FLYING SCOTCHMAN." FIVE COACHES DERAILED. V (Received September 15, 10 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 14. In the darkness* five coaches of the "Flying Scotchman" express were derailed at Chevington, Northumberland. The train was traveiling at a speed of fifty-five miles an hour. The passengers were severely shaken, and there were rsome remarkable ( escapes. The wheels were buried in the ballast and this prevented the carriages from overturning. The permanent way was torn up for a distance of two hundred yards. The cause of the accident is a mystery; it was due to subsidence, owing to mining operations.
