Mr Ken Harris,'.of Hastings, who sustained a .serious-accident at the Dannevirko races oh Wednesday, is reported to be making satisfactory .progress. Mr Hodson, who hag been appointed ta.ihe Ekotahuna 'Presbyterian charge, reached that town on Tuesday. Mr Hodson has only just arrived in New Zealand. Mr R. T. Carlyon, who spent several years of his boyhood in Featherston, and was lai/o extra purser in the Union Company's extended Island service, is to join the Willochra as assistant purser for the voyage to San Francisco. At the American. Port he transfers to the Canada Cape, and will act in the capacity of purser to that vessel. On Tuesday afternoon the death took place in Napier of Mrs John White, of "Braeburn," Porangabau. The deceased" lady had been ill for a little while only, but on Saturday she was brought into Napier for an operation, from the effects of which, she did not recover. She was the widow of the late Mr. John White, of "Braeburn" station arid had resided "for forty years in the Porangabau district, where the news of her death was received with profound regret. .Her husband predeceased her some years ago, and she is survived by-four sons and five daughters. The former are: Messrs H. W. White, E. J. White, P. J. White and K. W. White. The latter are Mr s Mowbray (Hukanui), Mrs Bruce Speedy" (Featherstbh), Mrs J. Bibby (Onga Onga), Mrs C. Patterson (Waipukurau), and Mrs Kinder (Te Kuiti).
