BIG BICYCLE ROAD RACE. WON IN RECORD TIME. (By Tdearasi\.—PrM AikxwiuM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. The "Round the Mountain Road Race," now the big cycling ©vent of the Dominion, was held to-day in abominable weather. Rain fell heavily, and a' cold, biting wind blew. Nevertheless, 52 out of the 63 who had nominated started on the long journey. The start was effected in a blinding rain storm, and it is extraordinary that the result should have been a record time for the race. The results were as follow: Sheppard (Kaponga) (35min), shr 50min lOsec ....; 1 S. W. Crutchley (Wanganui) (32 min), shr SOmin 49sec .....;... 2 G. Wallace (Christchurch) (17min) shr 41min 21sec 3 Bonis (Christchurch) was fourth, Henderson (Palmerston) fifth, O'Shea (Christchurch) sixth, Coulter (Palmerston) seventh and Pinny (Hamilton) eighth. The fastest time was put up by P. O'Shea (Ohristchurch), viz.,- 6hr 25 min 14sec. fastest time was done by Henderson (Palmerston North), shr 29min 60seo. ;' ■,
