HOCKEY.
NELSON DEFEAT TARANAKI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) : ~ : NEL&ON,. Last Night. The representative hockey match, Nelson v. Wairarapa, was played today in fine weather and before a large attendance. The game resulted in a win for Nelson by one goal to nil. In> the opening stages the visitors attacked, but Clark cleared beautifully, and taking the ball from one end- of the field to the other, shot a splendid goal. *For the remainder of the spell the game went up and down the field. The home team'narrowly escaped scoring on several occasions. In the second half the visitors were frequently dangerous, but'were prevented from scoring by the sterling , defence of the Nelson backs. Tunnicliffe (Wairarapa) fractured a rib during the second half. The team is being entertained at a smoke concert this evening. Yesterday they were taken for a drive round the Waimeas and attended a hockey dance in the evening.
