The - Rev. S. La wry, president of the Methodist Conference, underwent for appendicitis on Sat- * *. I durably. Mr T. A. Harrisj isolocitor, of Raetihi, a nephew, of Mr Walter Harris, of Masterton, has been elected a member of the W&nganui Education Board.
Mr T. W. McMaster, formerly of the Masterton Post Office, and at present a wireless operator on the U.S.S. Company's Manuka, was on a business visit to Masterton yesterday. At the meeting of the Wairarapa Presbytery, the Rev. E. C. Tennent, of Martinborough, was granted six months' leave of absence to visit the Old Country. Sister Dunkley and Nurse Whitia, who have been on the staff of the Masterton Hospital for some time, have 'tendered their resignations. These have been accepted by the Board.
Mr Finlay. Mclver, advance representative of t.lie "Great McEwen Company," is at present in Masterton making arrangements for the appearance of the company in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening next. Mr H. N. Holmes, late secretary to the Wellington branch of the Y.M.C.A., has been appointed organiser for the Association in South Africa for two years. A London correspondent states that Mr and Mrs John Hessey, of Masterton, who were to have set out on an extensive motor trip, had to" postpone it oh account of the illness of Mrs Hessey, who underwent a serious operation. Mr E. Silverwood, who has been for the past two years or more chief Clerk in the Featherston post office, left for Wellington yesterday* arid will take up duty in the telegraph office there. By the transfer of Mr Silver wood, the Feathers ton post office loses a capable and obliging officer.
