FOOTBALL IN THE WAIRARAPA.

The curtain has been rung down on senior football in the Wairarapa for tihe year* 1913. That the season lhas been a successful one is demonstrated by the large takings recorded by the Wairarapa Rugby Union at their various grounds throughout the district. Prom the football standpoint, interest has never 'been so keen, and the issue of the result of the championship never so undecided throughout the whole season, as was the case with regard to the season just completed. The championship has ibeen won by Carterton, and the redoubtable maroons fully deserved their win. Although they were hard put to it to defend their title, they played so well and so consistently that no one can begrudge them their success. Four teams completed the third round, at the conclusion of which only four points separated them on the championship ladder. It may be safely said tihat not one of the losing teams disgraced'themselves, and all played in such a consistent manner that football in the Wairarapa must be considered on the up-grade. A fair indication as to whether football has. improved here will be furnished in the representative match to be played against Taranaki next month. In their match last year, Wah-arapa won by fire points.
