THE MASTERTON COMPETITIONS.
The Masterton Competitions Society is deserving of warm commendation for the completeness of the arrangements for last week's festival, and of congratulation upon the magnificent success which attended the func-, fcion. There are, however, some matters which will requite amendation if the Society is to continue to prosper and render the best service possible to the district. 'im (the first place, there should 'be a classification of competitors. Amateurs should not be asked to compete with those wiho are professionals. Then, there should be different events - for children and adults. Under no circumstance should the former be permitted to compete with the latter. -It is desirable, also, that there should be local as well as open events. A number of the contests should be confined to-residents of the Masterton, Wairarapa and Paihiatua electorates, and there should be a points championship for local as well as open events. These are a few of severnl suggestions that the (Society should consider before, framing its next programme.
