AN INTERESTING POINT.
According to the Ghxistchurch Press, Mr J. I'syne, M.P., who is assisting Mr Webb in the Grey by-ekcfcion, made an interesting point in defending tthe Labour-Socialists against the criticism that their policy involves confiscation. There was « far confiscatory law in existence, he eau: than anything the Socialists proposed, namely, the law relating to National Prohibition, Many small settlers, he pointed otft,. have taken up cold olay lands which by arduouß labour they have r&axJe profitable wine-growing country. These lands, it appears, are unfit fop anything but grape-growing, and Mr' Payne points out that National Prohibition would ruin the settlers concerned.- This appears to be sound and reasonable enough to require soime siftentio from the Prohibitionists.
