THE DECIMAL SYSTEM.
There ha B been a movement in OreBritain for some years past in the direction of applying the decimal system to our -weights and measures. Sir Joseph Ward intimated his intention a few years ago of introducing the new system into New Zealand; but the Old Country and other parts of the Empire have been so slow to move that nothing ' hag been done. The decimal system has been in operation on the Continent and in America for many years. It possesses so many advantages over our obsolete -avoirdupois system that its adoption by Great Britain is inexplicable.* ! Possibly when the Imperial Conference meets again some definite proposals will bo made- for reform. In the meantime, we oan only grope along in our old alive groove, conscious of the fart thai we aro several ceatifriea behind the times.
