INSPECTORSHIP QUESTION.
DISCUSSED BY HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
NSPECTOR MILLER'S SERVICES TO BE DISPENSED WITH.
At the meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, a letter Was read from the District Health Officer, dealing with the question of the Health Inspectorship in the district. He suggested that the services of Inspector Miller be dispensed with, and that Inspector Cairns be appointed chief inspector, with the power to procure assistance. Mr W. Fisher moved that the Board dispense with the services of Inspector Miller, by giving him thief months' notice. Mr Ewington seconded. . Mr G. Bennett protested vigorously against the proposal to dispense with the services of the Southern inspector. He did not think that orie man could do justice to the whole district. He thought this was a, piece of "hoodwinking and back-scratch-ing." Mr Ewington objected to the use of such an expression. The motion of Mr Fisher was put and carried, Mr Bennett alone dissenting. Mr Bennett declared that the Board was emulating the example of the three tailors in Tooley Street. Mr Fisher- then moved", and Mr Ewington seconded, "That Inspector Cairng bo appointed Chief Inspector for the district."
Mr T. V. Moore pointed out that it would be necessary to appoint assistance at each end of the district. The motion appointing Inspector Cairns to be Chief Inspector was put and carried on the voices. On the motion of Mr W. Moore, seconded by Mr Bennett, a recommendation was made to the Central Committee that applications be called for the position of assistant-inspector.
