THE FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
From present indications, it would appear that the Commonwealth elections are likely to produce a condition that will necessitate another appeal to the electors. It seems certain that neither party will have a working majority in the new House. Tf the Liberals should succeed in gaining possession of the Treasury benches by a majority of one or two, they will still have to face 1 a hostile , Jsbos4- tfe? on th'e ct&er liandV squeeze back to power, they,,would hardly survive the first division. The position is one that is almost without parallel ill ft Commonwealth of federated States, and it reveals a most interesting and perplexing outlook. So far as the referenda is concerned, the figures available would indicate that, with one solitary issue, which is still in doubt, the whole of the proposals have been negatived.
