"THE MONK AND THE WOMAN."
AT THE TOWN HALL.
The George-Mariow Company/ produced "The Monk and the Woman" to a good house in the Masterton Town Hall last evening. The company is a strong one, and the acting by the various characters throughout tlie piece was very high Standard. ,The play is remarkable for the combination of love, warfare, and religion which perforates it, and there is no lacking of dignity, there is wealth of incident, which tends to • make the drama intensely .interesting. The .principal parts were ably played' by Mr Herbert J. Bently as Paul (a Novice"', Mr Hilliard Vox as Henri de Montrale, 'Mir Arthur Shirley as King, Mr John J. Ennis, Wiseman, Miss Myra Hassall as Countesse de Selle, and Miss Oriel Hotson as Mdlle. [d e Vigne. The various characters | most capably performed their different and difficult parts. The scenic effects added greatly to the success of the play, while the costuming tended to give a most realistic and effective touch, the dresses of the female characters being especially gorgeous and appropriate. The staging of 1 'The Monk and the Woman' lias certainly "made good" on. its initial production in Masierton.
