MAORI DISAPPEARS.
UNDER PECULIAR CIRCUM- • STANCES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HASTINGS, Last Night. A Maoifi .named aged 35 years, hailing from Waimarama, disappeared under somewhat strange circumstan ces. On' Saturday night, about 10 o'clock, >Rae, in company with another Maori named Shamrock, left Hastings for Waimarama on horseback ,and when a short distance from the bridge which spans the Tukituki river, R'ae had occasion to dismount.- Shamrock, being in a hurry to readh. Waimarama, did not wait for his companion, but rode on. Since then Rae has not been seen or heard of. His horse turned up at Waimarama yesterday without the saddle. Constable Hifferman, of Havelock'North, searched the locality where Hae was last se?n by Shamrock,, but was unable to find any trace of his whereabouts. The saddle was found an: the roadside near the bridge at a late hour 1 on Saturday night. Up to 7 o'clock tonight the search has proved' abortive.
