AKITIO COUNTY COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETIXG
Last Saturday th? Council of Akitio met met at i'ongaroa, when there were pres.nt the County Chairman (Mr R. B. Robertson), C'i> Burling and Dickins (Pongaroa) , P. V. Smith (Akitio"'. J. \Y. Murray t'Mataikona), and H. T. Ellinglutm (Horoeka 'Riding). DEPUTATIONS. Messrs.' 'Gad shy and Bartlett waited on the Council in reference to a full payment on th Mr contract for metalling Pongaroa to 'Mnsterton boundary. Jt was resolved, in view cf the Overseer's report that the contract was almost completed, to withhold £24 and the amount of deposit in lien of 2o per cent. The County Chairman stated .that the Council woiv well pleased with the work performed by M \sm\s Gadsby and Bartlett, and considered they weiv in a position to receive every consideration.
■Regarding Messrs Gadsby and Bartlett's second contract at Karaka Pinch, the Council granted permission to spawl stone, during the winter months (1000 cubic ya.rds) and advance 75 per cent of the value of the so frt>a-wkd. The 'contractors statal that' early in the summer months both their contracts would be completed. Tlrfs means that a very large portion "of the Mayterton to Da nno v ilk? road will be metalled, and will give greater facility for the proposed Pou-garoa-E.ketahuna J coach service, and a better connection tfith Masterton from Pongaroa. " Tlu' Public Works Department forwarded authorities for,various bridges up to the amount of the District Engineer'h estimate. However, til ■ Clerk was, instructed to apply for tlu' full amount of vote available for bridge -work. The Mangahewa bridg? plans will be submitted shortly, and tenders called.
Messrs R. McKenzie and Co. agreed to the Council's ivquest to insert certain hardwbod piles, in with the Akitio River Mouth Bridge. —Received.
The Public Works Department explained th > position re the use of totaia in the AkitiH River Month Bridge, and the Council decided to write to the Department and fctyank them for tlieir explanation. Th.* Clerk reported that the final payment of grant on the Rimu And Waioakura /roads had be.'n received. The Noxious Weeds Inspector intimated that lie would visit tjie Marainanga estate and confer wfth Mr Humphries re gnrse alkged to he on his property. The Mi lifter of Justice stated that the Council could deliver summons, by have of tlie Magistrate, in lieu of the local constable.
The Wa.irarapa Hospital mid Charitable Aid contribution is £67 7s Bd, lou't'i' than last vonr, viz., £244 Os Bd. The X.Z. Cassette states that the int?rest on loans has be>n fixed a 4{r per cent. When the Akitio County raised their loan of the interest was 3". per cent. Mr F. G'. Moore's tender of £4 for publication of baliuiosheet ivns ao- •• pt-.'d. The Council decided tp insure the Coui'ity Overseer ami to fill holes on road iea.ding to the Town Hall. Mr J. Martin is to be given to the end of.January to complete his contract.
Wages and accounts' amounting to £l-181 12s ( .)d wort* passed for payment.
The overseer submitted wages allolocations :—Roads construction and maintenance (penoral) ,-£2s] 9s Id: land fund. £64 Is; loan £.28 7s; poiincl repairs, £1 2s 9d ; total, Os ld-_ The various roeomnjendations . in the overseer's report wei'e adopted.
