THE POLICE FORCE.
The Hon A. L. Herdman is to be commended upon the firm stand he is taking in respect to the police force in the Dominion. An attempt is being made by certain interested Labourites to induce the police force u. form an union among themselves. The obvious intention is to bring the force into line with other Union*, so that in time of emergency they will strike in sympathy with disrupted labour organisations. Such a con dition of affairs would at once be intolerable. It would mean that the maintenance, of law and Order would he & matter of impossibility, flnti * reign of tefroi'. would eaftt tn the eonimnnity. The Hon Mr Herdman will have' the great force of public opinion behind him if he puts his foot down resolutely, and purifies the force of those rebellious" individuals who are out to destroy the peace and harmony that at present exists in one of the most important branches of our public service.
