STATEMENT BY MR MASSEY. iliy Telegraph. — Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. During the course of an interview, the Prime Minister, speaking on the financial position, said that the surplus, approximately £700,000. would be transferred to the Public Works Fund. Mr Massey drew attention „to the Treasury document signed by the Secretary of the Treasury, showing the position at August 31st. 1912. The total commitments amounted to £670,495. Against this sum stood the total of £17,110. leaving a deficiency at the end of August of £754,385. The success of the Hon. J. "Allen in London had helped to straighten matters out, and things would be more satisfactory during the next few montlis. He hoped- before long that it would be possible to raise the limitations upon loa,n.s. to local bodies, advances to settlers and advances to workers.
