DISTRICT NEWS.
Our Own Correspondent. MAURICEVILLE. The weather has taken a decided turn for the worse, and for the last 24 hours a heavy rain from the south-east ha* fallen, with no signs of abating. The Forester's annual ball is to take place to-night (Friday) in the old school room. No expense or trouble has been spared to ensure the success of the function. At a meeting of householders, held on Monday night, the following committee was elected: Messrs E. W. Wilson (chairman), A. E. Clarke ((secretary), A. Forsberg. A. K. Lemberg, 'P. E. Mortensen, J. Jensen, and R. McKinnon. A private message received from Taumarunui states that the .condition of Mr R. Nielson is rather serious. The young man was crushed under a rolling log, and '-inderwent an operation last week, and under the circumstances is as well as can be expected. Mr E. ("Ted") Mattson, who has been confined to his l>ed for some days, suffering from an attack of rheumatic fever, is slightly improved. A slight accident happened in the local butter factory on Monday last. The main driving shaft broke and came down. Beyond the steam pipe and one or two small breakages, little damage was done.
