A BRUTAL ASSAULT.

UPON A CONSTABLE. (By Telegrdph. — Press Association.) GREYMiOTJTH, Last Night, Two brothers, named Robert and ■Tames Steele, were fined £3 each on the evidence of Constable Catwell, at the Magistrate's Court on Monday for using obscene language at Otira. Tinsequel occurred on the same afternoon. The constable was going to the Greymouth station, when the brothers accosted him, knocking him down and brutally assaulting him. At the Court to-day, both wove sentenced to one month's imprisonment, with hard labour. Another brother (Hugh) was fined £5 for inciting his brothers to resist, and himself obstructing the police during the same occurrence.
