A PECULIAR POSITION.

A curious position has arisen in respect to the election of members of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards. Provision is made that the election shall be held on the same day as the municipal election. The Regulation of Local Elections Act states, however, that the poll shall close at 6 p.m. As the poll at the municipal election does not close until 7 p.m., it will at once be seen that a difficulty will arise. The same position exists in regard to the polling on the halfholiday question. In the latter case it is stated that the poll shall be held "simultaneously" with the municipal poll, ft is fortunate that the Gover-nor-in-Council is empowered to extend the hour from six o'clock to -seven o'clock, and it is probable that application will he made for the exercise of this> power in respect to the Wairarapa.
