COMPULSORY DOMESTIC SERVICE.
In education, as in most other tilings, Germany is just now leading the world. The latest proposal from the FatJwrland is that all girls, rich and poor, large and small, shall receive an ectuc&teon in domestic service. The suggestion is that every girl, on reaching the age o>f eighteen, shall present herself at .some institution to undergo twelve months' training in some of the most importnut subjects of domestic a,ml social science. It is suggested that six months should l>e devoted to ordinary domestic training, three months to the art of child culture. and three months to the teaching of the principles of sick nursing. The life r.s to be simple, wholesome, and healthy all classes of society are to be treated alike; discipline and regular habits are to be maintained, and though compulsion is tlio keynote of the scheme, it is felt that the result would bo of incalculable value both to the individual and to the State.
