ENGINEERS' DISPUTE SETTLED.
The news that the dispute between the' Union Company and the e.igineers hay been amicably settled will be received with intense satisfaction. The parties met in conference, with the Prime Minister as chairman, and it is very much to the credit 'if Mr Massey, a-s it is to all concerned, that by a spirit of amity and toleration a national disaster has Been averted. It would appear, from tho information that has been published, that the whole difficulty arose over a misconception of the terms of an agreement on the part of the Union Company. The engineers were firmly convinced that a. certain agreement had been made, and the Union Company was just as confident that it had not. The Prime Minister has given hia decision in favour of the engineers. ?r>d tincompany has accepted the decision in the spirit in which it has been <'iven.
