COMPULSORY INSURANCE.
In the course of an address delivered at Gisborne t'he other evening, the Hon. W. H, Her ties, wJio was apparently speaking with t'he authority of Cabinet, stated that the Government were watching the operation of t'he scheme of compulsory insurance against unemployment and sickness introduced by Mr Lloyd-George, and would be prepared to do something on t'he same lines. This is one of the most important announcements that have been made since the Reform Party came into power. While Socialists and Syndicalists are theorising and making loud noises, the Reform Government, with an honest desire to ameliorate the condition of t'he people, intends taking steps to provide every man and woman in the Dominion with an insurance against destitution. With pensions and superannuation schemes galore, it is time that something was done for the man who does the piping. The introduction of a .scheme of compulsory insurance will he awaited with keen anticipation.
