THE DECIMAL SYSTEM.
The advantages of the decimal system of coinage, weights, and measures were discussed at a meeting of the Adelaide Chamber of Manufacturers last week. Mr 0. Se-ppelt, who introduced the subject, spoke enthusiastically of what was being done in other States of the Commonwealth to advance the idea, and moved that a South Australian braneli'of the Dec-:-uial Association be formed, under the auspices of the Chamber of Manufacturers ; that a. committee be \ppointed to ,go into the question of ways and means, and draw up a programme; also that the Chamber of Commrirre be approached to co-operate in the matter. The feeling of members present was strongly >in favour of the decimal system. As one -gentleman nut it, the Chamber, if it isucceedcd in establishing the proposal, would ft least earn the undying gratitude of cverv schoolboy, because the system would reduce arithmetic to a. simple matter. The motion was- adopted, pud a subcommittee appointed to consider the question.
