CRIMINAL LUNATICS.
Sir Robert Anderson think? tliat a Bill should bo passed by the Home Government, declaring "window-smashers" to be criminal lunatics. This would no doubt be an effective method of dealing witi) those insane suffragettes whoso militancy is at the moment assuming serious proportions in the Motherland. Had the Pankhurst methods been adopted ,in New Zealand, we venture to think the woman's franchise would still be a long \yav off. The very means that are being employed to enforce the claims of women to the .suffrage are the strongest arguments that could be adduced in ■opposition to their being conceded, 1
As Mr rici'l;;;'! Saa'.'U'l pa'nitvtl out a few days hack, if the Government allows itself to bo influenced by acts of violence, it will give the country entirely over to mob-rule, and the position will become intolerable. The hysterical lunatics who are adopting militant methods .to force a reform for ■which tho country may, or may not be ripe, are enemies to the- cause which they profess to espouse. They should be placed in padded-rooms, and kept there l at the will of His Majesty.
