PRESIDENT MADERO RESIGNS. DESPERATE FIGHTING IN THE. STREETS. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) MEXICO CITY February 13. President Madero has resigned. A detachment of the 2l)th Infantry revolted, shot all the officers, and joined General Diaz. Some of the mutineers were recaptured, being overpowered by the followers of President Madero. General De Labarra, who took refuge in the British Legation, is arranging to succeed General Madero as President. Further fighting resulted in , the destruction of Madero's private residence. A number of Americans Jtave been wounded. The bodies of many Mexicans are lying in the streets. These, with dead horses, are threatening the health of the public. The Federal troops advanced down Balderas Street early in the morning. They were shelled by the forces of General Diaz, and few of them were left in the street alive. The Government troops then attempted to storm tlie rebels' position, but were beaten bark. SPECIAL SESSIC:: OF CONGRESS MADERO'S RESIGNATION ACCEPTED. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) MEXICO CITY. February 16. A special session of Congress was convened, and the resignation of President Madero was accepted. President De Labarra announces that he hopes to conclude terms of peace in the- course of a few days. The American Ambassador lias protested against the statements favouring the Mexicans, made by Mr John Barrett, which, he says, are inflaming the Mexicans against Americans. He asks that Mi- Barrett's speechmaking activities be stopped. UNTIED STATES CABINET MEETS. TO .DISCUSS THE SITUATION. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) WASHTN'GTO'N". February 15. A special meeting of Cabinet was called, to discuss the Mexican situation. There is a general feeling that the resignation of President Madero will clear the air, and that President De Labarra will be likely to seek an agreement with .the followers of General Diaz.
