ON CROWN LEASES. A CANTERBURY CASK. (By Telegraph.—Fress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. This morning, when the" Canterbury Land Board was dealing with the transfer of leases, an echo of the Southland case, regarding the rignfc to the mineral wealth on land corn cited from perpetual lease to the freehold tenure, was heard. The Board decided to grant the transfer. The matter was discussed by ,-i reporter with some of the members of the Board when it adjourned. They were inclined to the opinion that should the. lessee convert his holding to a i'roeljold, the mining rights would not necessarily become his "property.
