THE SLAUGHTERMEN.
The Rangitikei Advocate, which goes the whole hog when it is championing the cause of the man on the land, says r : "We are inclined to believe that those companies who .have conceded an increase of pay to slaughtermen, without even the semblance of a struggle, will have reason to regret fiat they did not throw in their lot with others-and present a united front to their opponents. There is no guarantee of any finality to these demands, and every concession only creates an appetite for more." The Advocate is apparently not aware that the whole of the companies offered to make a concession If its reasoning be eorrec't, the appetite for more was created bv the -unanimous -will of the companies. Our »•- teemed contemporary sh.nild remember the fate of the Turks. It is no use going to war v' J ' : pons and without ammunition. The companies, or at aryrate the farmers, are not prepared for a fight. And that is the long and .slio.rt of the whole business.
