A LABOUR SCARE.
A representative of tho Age asked a prominent member of iho Labour Party in Masterton if a report of the annual meeting of the Party would bo furnished for publication. The reply was that there were certain member; of tho Party who objected to the proceedings being published, as they wero afraid of the consequences. The newspaper man expressed surprise. "Well/' said the Labourite, "some of our people have been told that t-hoy will get the sack if they sign the pe-tit-ion in favour of the Saturday halfholiday."- This was a knock-out. We confess that we accept the statement with incredulity. Wo bliould like some evidenco in support of it. In tho meantime, we can only say that we do not think the Labour Party is doing itself justice by transacting its business in camera. If it has a good cause, it should not be ashamed or afraid to let the public know all about jit.
