(Bv Telegraph.—Press, Association.)

WANGAXUi, Last Night

Another drowning fatality in the Wanganui river, being the third within a week, took place this morning. Arthur Hill Campbell, aged 33, married, with two children, was the victim. It appears that Campbell, who is a prohibited man, had been drinking heavily lately.. About four o'clock this morning be escaped surveillance at his home in Wanganui East, and though followed, lie.made his wa.y to the Aramoho bridge, and thence dowm to the water's edge, and plunged in. His body was recovered this afternoon. Campbell was recently before the Court only a charge of thtft. He was also charged with breaking his prohibition order. Probably the convictions, allied with the effects of drin!', upset bis mental balance. An inquest was held this afternoon into the circumstances surrounding the death of John Brody. wlioms drowned at Kaiwhaike on Friday. The evidence showed that when a cry of "man overboard" was raided on the Waiwera. a lifebuoy was thrown out, and the vessel put fidl-siiecd astern. Another lifebuoy fell within Brady's reach, but he made no attempt to get it. He appeared to have hit bis head on something. Just before his wouldbe rescuers could reach him, his body sank. Some coal and benzine tins had been stored amidships, and it was I suggested that perhaps Brady trip- | ped on these. He had had some drink, but was said not to be under its influence. A verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
