(By Telegraph.—Press Association.">
INYERCARGILL, Last Night. For some time 'past a musty And unpleasant odour on the second floor of the new Government Buildings has been .the subject of comment by officials, located .in that portion c? the premises. An official whilst traversing the passage, unexpectedly put bisfoot through the floor, andi after an examination had been made, it was found that a verv severe attack of dry rot had set in. The floors of the various rooms were then tested, and the source of complaint was discovered. In almost every room, signs <rf dry rot were evident, and linoleums have since been lifted, and carpenters employed to raise parts thus afFected. In one room practically the whole of the floor, composed of one and' a half inch red pine, will require relaying, while the joists in. places also show signs of decay. Lack of ventilation appears to be the cause of the trouble.
