FARMER SLAUGHTERMEN.
Sir,—ln n. recent issue of your paper, I noticed that a farmer had stated that farmers' ssons were willing to do the slaughtering at the local freezing works, and that they were prepared to handle the meat at the ship's side,' if necessary. While, I admire the spirit, of independence that prompts the suggestion, I do hope thatsuch a calamity will bo prevented. No matter how efficient an amateur butcher may be, he does not understand the fine points of the game, and if ho were allowed to do the slaughtering at the local works, he would, in a month, destroy the reputation which the Wamgawa Company has built up on the London market. Tt would pa v the Waingawa Companv to concede the men's demands in full rather than close down for * ■
or allow amateurs to destroy their reputation.—T are. etc., SMALL FARMER, Mastorton, January 10. 1912.
