SOCIALISM.
A review of "M,v life.,'"* by August Rebel, the German Socialist, says:— "There are Germans who fear that the Socialists may become so strong in Parliament as to take office. Rather should they hope for this. The day on which they accept the responsibility of governing the country will be the last day of German Socialism. At the first contact with reality theory crumbles away. Sir Charles Dilke was a Republican—until he took office. Mr John Burns was a, Communist—until ihoi came up against tho facts of life. M. Briand was a Socialist, but as French Premier he handled a dangerous strike -situation more firmly than any other Premier beforo or since. The only way to draw tho teeth of theorists is to give them work to do which forces upon them a knowledge of human nature."
