INQUIRY INTO THE ATROCITIES (Received January 9, 8.10 a.m.) LONDON, January 8. Mr Gubbins, chairman of the Peruvian Amazon Company, in his evidence before the Putumayo Rnbbei Scandals Inquiry, said he had not heard of the atrocities until they were published in the newspapers. He did not think that the directors, or even Sen or Arana,, knew all that was go- ' ing on. . He considered that the directors were not responsible for the outrages. After the discloures it was the Peruvian Government's duty to punish tlie criminals.
