Mr John-Payne, M.P., is at present on a business visit to Masterton. Bishop Julius, of Christchnrch, has arrived at Sydney on his return from a visit to the Old Country. The Hon-. James Allen. Mr Evelyn Wrench, organiser for the Overseas Club, accompanied by Miss Wreaich, will be in Masterton on December 30th. The local branch of the Club intends making arrangements for his reception and entertainment. • The d'eath is announced of Mr Robert Bain, late of Springvale Farm, Waiareka. . The deceased _ _ gentleman arrived in the Dominion 54 years ago, and for a period of some 40 years was a farmer in tho Waiareka Valley. He retired from active life about 15 years ago. The death of Mrs Sarah Hounsell, of Tasman Street, The Wood, removes another of Nelson't first settlers. The deceased, whose maiden name was Durrant, arrived in Nelson by .the Lord Auckland in 1842, and 1 six years later married the lato Mr William Hounsell. At the time of her death the late Mrs Hounsell had reached the ripe age of 83. The Rev. A. T. Thompson, 8.A., BD. of Masterton, leaves to-day on a visit to Svtfnev. where he will occupv the pul'nit of St. Peter's Church in that citv. During his absence, the Rev. W J. Cowrie, of Wellington, will fill the pulpit on Sundav first, and for the three succeeding Sundays the nreacher will be the Rev. W' Bawdcn Harris.

Feist, of Carterton, carried off a mathematical prize. After if long and woarisoirte illness, the death occurred at her late residence, in Featherston. on Wednesday evening, of Mrs G. T. Baker, wife of Constable Baker, clerk of the court, Featherston. The deceased lady, who was only 39 years of age, was a daughter of the late Captain Chnstonsen, of the Imperial German Army, and was horn at Gothenbery, Denmark.
