MASTERTON COURTHOUSE.
Uio Masterton Courthouse is an institution that is a monument to the architectural skill of the Public Works Department. Its acoustic properties are such that judges, magistrates, lawyers and litigants become "so gloriously mixed that nobody .knows exactly what is happening, or is going to happen. It would not bo at all surprising to find persons who plead not guilty to an offence being summarily sent to gaol, or those who plead guilty being discharged for want of evidence. Nor could it be wondered at if judgment were entered up wrongly by the clerk, or a case were wrongly reported by the press. It is quite impossible to plead a ease, satisfactorily, or give coherent evidence, or deliver a judgment that is understandable in the body of tho Court. AVe appeal to the Department for the fifty-fifth time to do something to avert a possible judicial ■scandal.
