A BAD PRACTICE.
Changes in borough officials are constantly occurring in New Zealand, especially among the engineers, and there is' a natural desire, on the part of these gentlemen to improve their positions. Tt is hardly fair, however, for borough councils to permit the newspapers to give publicity to the townships from which applications for a position have been received. This has been done hi the case of Timaru, where an engineer; in .-wanted. A local newspaper gives the names of a number of townships from which applications have been received. Tt need hardly be stated that this publicity may have a prejudicial effect upon the applicants. Tf the practice continues, the good and ambitious men in the Dominion will, for their own protection, refrain from applying for vacancies that may occur.
