LORD ISDINGTON.
Tlio enthusiastic farewell tendered Lord and Lady Islington by tlio citizens of Wellington is a flattering tribute to tlio sterling qualities of a representative of the Crown who, during Jiis short stay in the Dominion, 1 has used evory power that ho could constitutionally exercise to promote the moral and .material well-being of tho community. It is with no desire to discount the efforts of previous Governors, most of whom liave been highly qualified, that wc say that Lord Islington has displayed an interest in tho internal development of tho country which has been specially marked, and his advice has always been accepted as that of a man who has a practical acquaintance with political, economical and socinl questions). His departure from tho Dominion, after so brief a stay, will bo sincerely regretted by a largo section of tho public; but satisfaction will be derived from the knowledge that his .services aro in request in a part of the Empire wlie.ro his ability and tact' can, possibly, bo of greater value than in New Zealand.
