RIVAL SHOWS.
Healthy rivalry is good in as in private institutions. It sharpens the wits and excites ambition and enthusiasm. .The Manawatu and Can-, terbury A. and P. Associations have been endeavouring of late to beat each other's records. Canterbury, with the assistance of its Cup earnical, has this year had a bigger attendance at its fthow than Manawatu. But Manawatu, aided by. side shows and its Kennel Club, has taken the pride of 1 position so far as the number of entries is concerned. There are, however, ponits to be considered irrespective of both entries and attendance. How do the membership and finances stand ? Which of the two institutions is making the more solid progress in these directions? Can either Canterbury or Manawatu show tho development that has been made by the Masterton Association during the last five years ?
