FARMERS AND ECONOMY.

The latest proposal for tho relief of the poor, downtrodden farmer with the motor ear, is that 'lie should , transact his stock business without the intervention of the auctioneer or tlio dealer. This proposal is only one of many that might ho mado to effect economies. Wby j for instance, should tho farmer not have 3ms own Bank, 'and store, and Church, and hospital, and .everything? Why should anybody else be allowed to live but the farmer? This is tho narrow-minded policy which some branches of the Farmers' Union are preaching. Fortunately there aro .sane- farmers, as there are sane business men. Sane farmers recognise that auctioneers, and middlemen generally, are a concomitant to both the primary and secondary industries. Without tho uactioneer and financial institution, many a farmer who is today in affluence would be struggling for on existence.
