MASTERTON HARRIERS
ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT. The annual smoke concert of the Masterton Harrier Club was held in the Club Hotel-last evening, when members of the Club and representatives of other' athletic bodies were present in full force. Mr W. L. Dickson presided, and the gathering was notable for the enthusiasm which prevailed, and which augurs well for amateur athletics in Masterton. After full justice was done to the excellent fare provided by Host Crass a lengthy toast list was honoured. The toast of the Masterton Harriers was proposed by the chairman, who referred to tho excellent season which, was just completed, and considering that the Club had only been in existence for ono season, there was every reason to hope that the Masterton Harrier Club would become one of the strongest in the Dominion. It spoke well for the calibre of its members, when in its first season the Club had secured tho Championship White and Mackay's Shield. The chairman then presented tho medals and trophies won during the season to tho following competitors: W. Langley, gold medal; W. Peterson, gold medal, S. Temple, cigarette case; C. Laßoche, set of hairbrushes; J. Bradbury, silver teapot; L. Cooke, gold medal. A most enjoyable evening was i afterwards spent, songs and recitaj tions being' contributed by the following—Messrs B. Ensor, R. Messenger, Kingston, E. R. Wilson, A. Long, W. S. Dick-son, Mexted and others. The gathering proved in every respect a fitting termination to a most successful season, and tho promoters of tho Masterton Harrier Club have every reason to feel gratified at the •success of their venture.
