FIREMEN ENTER THE MINE
THEY HEAR VOICES. FIRE APPLIANCES FROM MELBOURNE. (Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) HOBART, October 14. A number of firemen with fire helmets have arrived from Launeeston. They eHtered the mine and report that voices were heard. This lends hope to the belief of the mine officials that the men in the lower: levels may yet be saved. A steamer with fire helmets arid other appliances left Melbourne at 3 o'clock this morning. It is expected to reach Burnie at midnight. A special train will convey the appliances to the scene of the disaster. ANXIETY IN MELBOURNE. SAT) SCENES WITNESSED. * (Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, October 14. Big crowds throughout the day awaited news of the Lvdl disaster at the newspaper offices. Sad scenes were witnessed.
