THE LATEST TRUST.
it is reported that a gigantic international trust has' been fofniekl with the object, of. "cornering'' all. the white lead inythe world. This will mean an immediate increase in the price of painting, plumbing, and all the decorative work. The trust, which emanated from America, embraces every 'English firm except six out of over a hundred. This tmall opposition, however, is of little avail, as the six independent firms will be bound to join the trust, as. they will bo,unable to buy any more dry white lead except at n prohibitive figure. The negotiations were commenced in the autumn and hy the end of March the combination, which covers England, Apieriea, and the Continent, had been effected. A uniform price has been fixed by the international committee, and no white lead can bo obtained under that figure. The immediate result' of the combine has boon the increase in price from £lB to £l9 a. ton to £2l and over. After it lias been ground the price is £3O. and this is the amount tbat the ordinary decorator has to pay as fixed by the trust. Last year he would hr.vo paid £2l a ton. '
