OBITUARY
MR JAMES PRYOR. A painful sensation was caused in Masterton last night when it became known that Mr James Pryor, a wellknown resident of the town, had died suddenly at his residence in Bannister Street. The lato Mr Pryor underwent an operation for varicose veins in July last. He subsequently contracted pleurisy and pneumonia. He had, however, made what was regarded as a splendid recovery. Early.last evening j 10 " had tea with his family, and appeared to be in splendid spirits. He retired to his room about seven o'clock, and shortly afterwards was seized with violent pains. Medical aid was speedily summoned, but the deceased lapsed into unconsciousness and passed away at about eight o'clock. The cause of death is thought to have been internal hemorrhage. The late Mr Pryor, who was about forty-six years of age, was a son of the Lite Mr Pryor, at one time a prominent business man in Dunedin, and was born in the southern city. '• He came to Mastcrton from Oama.ru in November, 1908, and has. since been employed as head draper for the Waira.rana Farmers' Co-operative Association. During his stay in Masterton the deceased had taken an active interest in al! institutions which made for the advancement of the town. He was a prominent-member of the local Horticultural Society, one of the promoters of the Competitions Society, an ex-president of the Swimming Club. .■» member of the committee of the Athletic Club, and a member of the Management Committee of the Y.M.C.A. He was also an ardent horticulturist and ponltrv-fancier, and was a prominent officer nf Kitvs Church up to the time of his death.. He leaves a widow, four sons and one daughter, who will have the sincerest svmnathv of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement. One of bis sons o)avid) i« at oresent studying :n Dunedin for the Presbyterian .Ministry. Mr William Pryor, Dominion organiser of the N.Z. Employers' Association, is a brother of the deceased. Another brother was the late RexDavid Pryor. assistant in Knox Church, Dunedin. The decease*] had been in business in Timaru, Oanlaru and Auckland before coming to Masterton.
