STORM IN AUCKLAND
. A HEAVY DOWNPOUR, itty ielegrapt—i-resa Association.} AUCKLAND, Last Night. Considerable damage was lone on Saturday evening by ono of the most serious thunderstorms experienced in Auckland for some years. The downpour was accompanied* by hailstoner.'. which Bounded on the houses like a discharge of musketry. They also smashed windows, and ruined gardens. The track of the storm was easily traced this morning, and the glazier wag much in request. Glass houses suffered very much. Some of the hailstones were reported to be as large as pigeon's eggs. The suddenness and volume of the downpour caused many small floods in the city and suburbs. At a restaurant in the town, where the hail had evidently blocked the gutters, the rain poured through the roof, and in the rooms was to be seen the unusual spectacle of people supping with their umbrellas up, to escape the water streaming through the roof. During the height of the electrical disturbance, telephonic communication with the central bureau was interrupted, a thing which has not happened in Auckland before.
