THE PRICE OF MEAT.
| The Evening Post states that enquir- | ies made from the Gear Meat Company do not bear out the statement recently made in the Wairarapa Age concerning the price of meat. Very ! well. We would ask tho Gear Meat Company if it kuowg of any institution that is reducing its retail shops on account of the high prices ruling for stock? 7a"c would ask if the Gear Meat Company is not aware that there is an immense shortage this year in bullock beef, and in wether mutton, and if it i«'not a fact that high (prices are likely to rule for these at the opening of the freezing season? The export trade, closer settlement, and the improvement in the dairy herds, are going to be important factors in maintaining the high price, of stock. And it may yet be necessary to place restrictions upon tho exportation of lambs.
