We understand that the appeal of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company for additional capital with which to provide increased storage accommodation at the Waingawa freezing works is meeting with a- generous response. Already a sum of over £7OOO has been subscribed.
A sale of work in aid of the Melanesian Mission Fund was held in St. Matthew's Schoolroom yesterday. A capable ladies' committee under the supervision of Mrs Do Castro had charge of the various stalls, and did good business in the afternoon. In the evening the attendance was not so good owing to counter attractions. Despite these elements the fund should benefit considerably.
The monthly meeting of the Knox Church Ladies' Social Guild was held at the residence of Mrs T. Moore, Lincoln Road, on Wednesday, September 11th. There was a fair attendance of members and friends. The president (Mrs H. T. Wood) presided. Musical items were rendered by Mrs Falla, Misses Hogg, Shaw and Jessie Millar. Afternoon ton was provided bv Mesdames Moore, Gibson and Exalt.

The tender of Messrs Taylor and Hodges has been accepted' for the additions to tho .Waingawa freezing works. There were four tenders for the work. At the meeting of delegates in Masterton yesterday, Mr H. C. Robinson expressed the hopo that a strong deputation would be formed to wait upon Mr J. B. Keith and ask him to contest the vacant seat on the Masterton Trust Lands Trust.

The Wellington Stationary, Traction, and Locomotive Engine Drivers' Union has filed a disput for hearing by the Conciliation Council. Employers in Wellington, Masterton:, Hawke's Bay, Palmerston North, and Wanganui have been cited. The Union asks for a forty-eight-hour week, and wages ranging from Is l&d to Is 4£d per hour, according to the class of engine driven.
There is a movement in Carterton to establish a Homing Pigeon Club. Members of the Masterton Club have expressed their willingness to help in the formation, and have announced that they will give a number of pigeons which can be .sold to members and the proceeds go to form a nucleus' for working expenses. In all probability a meeting will be held next week. —News.
