LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
THE FINAL. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) NELSON, Last Night. The final of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship was played to-day at the Tahuranui links, in glorious golf weather. The contestants were tho Misses Collins and Pearce, both of Wellington. The game was expected to produce a most exciting contest, as both ladies played consistently through tho tournament, and finished up yesterday with 92 in the Coronation Med a! Match.
The result, however, proved to be an easy win for Miss Collins by five up and four to play. The winner never looked like losing, and played ivith great confidence, especially in the long game, in which she made very few mistakes. Miss Pearce, who was expected to win, and whose handicap is ore to Miss Collins' seven, Avas right off her game. She was nervous from the.start, and played raggedly at first. She picked tip after losing the first two holes, but had no luck. She halved the next four, but never caught Miss Collins. The putting on both sides was weak.
The presentation of prizes took place at noon, 'and.most of the golfers left for home by the delayed steamer a% 4.20 p.m.
