In New Zealand there are some six societies which havo either just it, or havo the opera in preparation* The Masterton Society are therefore well advised in putting on this charming opera- for their 1912 season. Patrons will thoroughly enjoy tho work.-' Thocasto is a strong one, all e:;eol-j lent singers and amateur actors, whiie the chorus is said to be quite the best the "Society has ever had. The various- da'nees : ahd marches' -introduced into the production will delight the audience. In fact, at times they will fancy they are looking at pantomime instead of opera. Tho scenic effects , \vill be made os pleasing, a? po*- c ib*» to make them, and with t!:aid J* the electric light in tho Town Hall', will eclipse all previous efforts of the Society.
