SYDNEY, August 27

A cvclone visited Grenfell last night, and swept a track for a hundred yards, including George Street, one of the principal thoroughfares. Many houses wore unroofed, chimneys demolished, and verandahs and balcony s ripped bodily away. Trees wero everywhere uprooted.

Business places which are suffering included Tumeys large produco storep, which were levelled to the ground. A i blacksmith's shop fell like a pack of [cards, while a number of tanks at a plumber's shop were caught up and i whirled over a fence some distance ! away. A verandah of the Royal Hotel was carried eighty yards. Sheets of iron skimmed along. Terrified horses were galloping through the town. There wag intense excitement- amongst the residents, several of whom were injured. One was blown through the window of a butcher's shop and severely cut by the glass. George Street was completely wrecked, damage to the value of many thousands being done.

Heavy thunder and torrents, of rain followed the storm.

The Hon. James McGowen, Premier of New South Wales, hag provided £2OO for immediate relief.
